SUCCESS STORIES

Adapting to pandemic for a post-pandemic opportunity
Rainbow Learning Centre and PADA was no exception for the impact due to covid. Considering the safety of our vulnerable students, PADA and Rainbow Learning Centre had to look out for alternate approaches to engage and develop the students from their home environment.
Online classes via video call with a structured program for the week was the preferred approach. Furthermore, it was decided to design and send paper-based worksheets by post to cater the learning needs of each student. Worksheets had to be designed in such a way to meet the wide spectrum of ability level of all students (ie) very low ability, moderate to higher ability. The focus was to prepare lessons that are essential to know for the daily living of intellectually disabled adults.
We are happy to share the outcome of the efforts we put in the design and development of lessons for the intellectually disabled adults.
Lessons for the following topics have been prepared covering numbers, counting, coloring, complete the drawing, sight reading, picture identification, words, fill the blanks and comprehension.
• Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers, Transport, Animals and Insects, Birds, Body, Home and Items, Opposites, Pairing, Professions, Dresses, My India, My Karnataka, My School, Music, Festivals (covers all major festivals), Famous persons, My Health, Nature, Food.
In this entire process, we have designed more than 1000 worksheets based on MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). To aid in the learning, audio and video materials are also prepared. We are happy to share that we intend to continue the online classed even post pandemic.
We take this opportunity to thank all the parents for their continuous support during pandemic. We thank our volunteers – Mrs Suhasini, Mr Aravindan and Mrs Sarada for their time and their valuable contributions.
